What is Communities?

Communities (/community) are creator-led clubs — a feed, events, Classroom, paid tiers, optional Messenger. Header says Community; eyebrow Communities. Hero: Find your people. Creator hub: Start your community, Browse free rooms, My communities. Guest: Sign in to create. Discover cards: Paid / Free. All is a category pill, not a Paid/Free tab row.

Settings and payouts

/community/settings: Create Community / Edit Community. Tabs: Basics, Images, Publish, Feed & Classroom, Monetization, Landing page, Forum. Heading Membership tiers. Connect Stripe in Profile → Payouts before you save paid tiers. Bridges: Open in Messenger, Discuss on Forum (platform Forum). Hub Overview does not count communities you belong to.

Settings walk

Tabs: Basics, Images, Publish (Published / Draft), Feed & Classroom (link University programs), Monetization (Membership tiers, require paid for Posts / Events / Feed / Chat), Landing page, Forum (still the platform Forum).

What it is not

Forum is public Q&A for the whole platform. University is courses. Network is the feed. Messenger is people. Collaborations is a shared project room, not a club.

User journeys

CM-01. Browse published communities

Path: Module switcher → Community (or /community)

You do:

  1. Open Community from the module switcher or navigate to /community.
  2. Scan the discover grid of published communities.
  3. Use category pills to narrow by tag (or choose All).
  4. Type in the header search to filter by title, description, creator handle, or tags.
  5. Click Prev/Next if more than one page of results exists.
  6. Click a community card to open its detail page.

Result: You land on /community/:communityId for the community you chose; unpublished drafts never appear in the grid.

CM-02. Browse as a guest (read-only)

Path: /community (signed out)

You do:

  1. Open /community without signing in.
  2. Browse the discover grid and open a published community detail page.
  3. Read the About tab, public description, and tier list.
  4. Attempt Join or open Create Community — confirm sign-in is required.
  5. Sign in when prompted and confirm you return to the same community.

Result: Guests can discover and read public community pages; membership and creator actions require authentication.

CM-03. Create a new community

Path: /community → Create Community → /community/settings

You do:

  1. Sign in to Kontext.
  2. From /community, click Create Community.
  3. Fill in title, short and long descriptions, avatar URL, banner URL, and tags.
  4. Optionally add feed categories and membership tiers before first save.
  5. Click Create and wait for redirect.

Result: A new community is created on your user canister; you land on /community/:communityId as the owner.

CM-04. Edit community settings as creator

Path: Community detail → Settings (or /community/settings/:id)

You do:

  1. Open a community you own.
  2. Navigate to Settings (/community/settings/:id).
  3. Update title, descriptions, avatar, banner, tags, or feed categories.
  4. Reorder feed categories — confirm All stays pinned first.
  5. Save and return to the detail page to verify changes.

Result: Settings persist on your canister; non-owners cannot access another creator's settings form.

CM-05. Publish or unpublish a community

Path: /community/settings/:id → Publish toggle

You do:

  1. Open settings for a community you own.
  2. Note the current Publish state (draft vs published).
  3. Toggle Publish off and save — confirm the community disappears from /community discover.
  4. Toggle Publish on and save again.
  5. Return to /community and confirm the card reappears in the grid.

Result: Draft communities are hidden from discovery; published communities are visible to all browsers.

CM-06. Join a free community

Path: /community/:communityId → Join

You do:

  1. Sign in if not already.
  2. Open a free community's detail page.
  3. Click Join on the sidebar or header CTA.
  4. Confirm the button changes to Joined and the member count increments.
  5. Open the Members tab and verify your handle appears.
  6. Switch to the Community feed tab — confirm member-only content is accessible.

Result: You are a member with access to feed, calendar, leaderboards, and linked integrations per community settings.

CM-07. Leave a community

Path: /community/:communityId → Leave

You do:

  1. Open a community where you are already a member.
  2. Click Leave in the membership controls.
  3. Confirm the prompt if shown.
  4. Verify Joined reverts to Join and your name drops off the Members tab.
  5. Attempt to post in the feed — confirm gating blocks non-members.

Result: You exit membership cleanly; premium or paywalled content is no longer accessible until you rejoin.

CM-08. Subscribe to a paid membership tier

Path: Community detail → tier button → Stripe Checkout

You do:

  1. Open a community with Stripe Connect configured and at least one paid tier.
  2. Review tier names, prices, and benefits on the About sidebar.
  3. Click the tier button for the plan you want.
  4. Complete checkout on Stripe's hosted page.
  5. Return to Kontext after payment.
  6. Confirm Joined state and tier badge reflect your enrollment.

Result: Paid membership unlocks paywalled feed, events, or chat per the community's paywallConfig.

CM-09. Configure membership tiers and monetization

Path: /community/settings/:id → Membership tiers + Monetization

You do:

  1. Open settings for a community you own.
  2. Add one or more membership tiers — name, price, and benefit copy.
  3. Enter your Stripe Connect account ID and enable paywall flags as needed.
  4. Save settings without errors.
  5. Open the community detail About tab and confirm tiers render in the sidebar.
  6. Test tier buttons redirect to Stripe when clicked (staging or test mode).

Result: Monetization settings persist; free and paid paths coexist on the same community page.

CM-10. Explore all detail tabs after joining

Path: /community/:communityId → tab bar

You do:

  1. Join a community with varied content configured.
  2. Open About — review banner, description, creator info, landing media, and testimonials.
  3. Open Community — scroll the feed and use category pills.
  4. Open Calendar — view upcoming events.
  5. Open Members — scan the roster.
  6. Open Leaderboards — confirm engagement rankings load (empty state is OK).
  7. Open Classroom — follow View program links when University programs are linked.

Result: All six tabs load without spinner hangs; each reflects live data from the creator's configuration.

CM-11. Post in the community feed

Path: /community/:communityId → Community tab → compose

You do:

  1. Join the community if you are not already a member.
  2. Open the Community (feed) tab.
  3. Choose a feed category pill (or leave on All).
  4. Write and publish a new post.
  5. Confirm the post appears in the feed (refresh if needed).
  6. Switch category pills and verify filtering narrows visible posts.

Result: Member posts land in the community feed and respect custom category filters set by the creator.

CM-12. Add a calendar event

Path: /community/:communityId → Calendar tab

You do:

  1. Join the community (or open as creator).
  2. Open the Calendar tab.
  3. Click Add event (or equivalent creator/member control).
  4. Enter title, date/time, and description.
  5. Save the event.
  6. Confirm it appears in the events list on the Calendar tab.

Result: Community events are visible to members; paywalled communities may gate event details for non-paying members.

CM-13. Configure landing media, testimonials, and branding

Path: /community/settings/:id → Landing media · Testimonials · White-label

You do:

  1. Open settings for a community you own.
  2. Add landing media items (hero images or gallery URLs).
  3. Add testimonials — quote, author, and optional avatar.
  4. Set white-label logo URL, accent colors, and tagline.
  5. Save settings.
  6. Open the About tab and confirm media, quotes, and branded header chrome render.

Result: The About tab becomes a marketing landing page with creator-controlled visual identity.

CM-14. Link University programs to Classroom

Path: /community/settings/:id → Classroom · /community/:communityId → Classroom tab

You do:

  1. As an instructor with published programs, open community settings.
  2. In Classroom, link one or more University programs to this community.
  3. Save settings.
  4. Open the community detail page and switch to Classroom.
  5. Confirm linked programs render with titles and descriptions.
  6. Click View program and confirm navigation to /university/program/:id.

Result: Members discover cohort learning inside the community without leaving the club context.

CM-15. Open the linked Messenger group

Path: /community/:communityId → Open in Messenger

You do:

  1. Join a community where the creator set a linkedGroupId.
  2. Locate Open in Messenger on the detail page (visible to members only).
  3. Click the control.
  4. Confirm Messenger opens the correct group thread (/messages?group=…).
  5. Send a test message and verify it appears for other group members.

Result: Community chat continues in Messenger alongside the async feed on the community page.

CM-16. Link Forum discussion and use Discuss

Path: /community/settings/:id → Forum links · detail → Discuss on Forum

You do:

  1. As creator, open settings and enter a Forum category ID and optional pinned thread ID.
  2. Save settings.
  3. Open the community detail page.
  4. Confirm Discuss on Forum (or equivalent CTA) appears.
  5. Click the CTA and land on the linked /forum category or thread.
  6. Participate in the thread — replies stay on the Platform Forum, not inside Communities.

Result: Community members have a clear bridge to public Forum Q&A without duplicating thread UI inside Communities.

CM-17. Share a community to Network

Path: /community/:communityId → Share to Network

You do:

  1. Join the community as a member.
  2. Click Share to Network from the detail page.
  3. Add optional commentary to the share compose dialog.
  4. Publish the share post.
  5. Open Network (/network) and locate the post with community_share category and community tag.
  6. Confirm the link resolves back to /community/:communityId.

Result: Your Network followers see a promotional post with attribution back to the community.

CM-18. Follow the community creator on Network

Path: Community detail sidebar → creator profile link

You do:

  1. Open a community detail page.
  2. In the sidebar, click the creator's handle or Follow creator link.
  3. Land on /network/profile/:handle.
  4. Review the creator's public profile, posts, and other communities if listed.
  5. Follow or message from Network if desired.

Result: Community discovery extends into the creator's broader Network presence.

CM-19. Delete a community (creator)

Path: /community/settings/:id → Delete Community

You do:

  1. Open settings for a community you own (use a test community in staging).
  2. Scroll to Delete Community.
  3. Confirm the destructive prompt in plain language.
  4. Complete deletion.
  5. Confirm redirect to /community discover.
  6. Search for the old community ID — confirm not found state with back button.

Result: The community is removed from platform index and your canister; members lose access.

CM-20. Platform admin — discover categories and moderation

Path: /community (admin principal) → Configure · card Unpub / Del

You do:

  1. Sign in with a platform admin principal.
  2. Open /community and click Configure on discover category pills.
  3. Add, reorder, or remove platform-wide discover categories; save to the platform canister.
  4. On a test community card, click Unpub — confirm it hides from discovery for all users.
  5. Republish or, on staging only, click Del to permanently remove a stale community.
  6. Sign in as a non-admin user and confirm Configure, Unpub, and Del controls are hidden.

Result: Admins curate discover taxonomy and can unpublish or delete communities without impersonating the creator.
