Journal

Capabilities

Journal (/journal) is two things on one shelf. The top is Kontext Journal, the public magazine. Below that, From the community lists journals that members run themselves. /blog sends you to /journal.

The magazine

H1 Kontext Journal. Search Search the Journal…. Empty: No published stories yet. Team and admin publish at /journal/manage — Manage posts, Draft with AI, New post. Founding, partner, and ambassador members submit for review. Statuses: In review, Published, Changes requested, Withdrawn. Editors Approve & publish or Send back (a note is required). featured is a human tag that pins the hero. The writing assistant cannot apply it. A story without a photo gets generated art.

Your own journals

Anyone with a workspace opens Journal Studio at /journal/studio. The overview is Your journals. Start your own journal begins one. A person can run several. Each has its own name, address, look, and subscribers. Steps: Basics, Design, About, Stories, Newsletter, Share. Drafts stay private. A live journal is listed under From the community with its tagline. Stopping it takes it off that list. A journal that has been public is stopped, not deleted.

A public journal is /journal/@handle (one journal opens its home; several open a shelf), then /journal/@handle/:journal and a story at /journal/@handle/:journal/:post.

Newsletter. From Stories you can email a published story to confirmed readers. The screen shows the reader count and what it costs the wallet. Readers confirm before they are on the list, and every email has an unsubscribe link.

Featured · paid spots lead From the community. They are labelled as paid. Buy one from the Studio’s Share step. If the workspace has not taken its update, the Studio says Your workspace needs its update.

User journeys

JN-01. Read a Journal article

Path: Module switcher → Journal · /journal

You do:

  1. Open Journal at /journal.
  2. Open a Kontext story from the list (or the featured story if one is tagged).
  3. Read. This is the platform magazine, not your Notes app.

Result: You read a Kontext story. Artwork without a cover is generated from the address, not a stock photo.

JN-02. Publish a Kontext story as team or admin

Path: /journal/manage

You do:

  1. Sign in with a team or admin role. Founding members submit drafts; they do not publish.
  2. Compose or draft with AI.
  3. Do not invent a cover address, and do not stamp featured unless you mean to pin the hero.
  4. Publish.

Result: The story appears on the Kontext Journal list. Contributors go through review; editors publish.

JN-03. Start your own journal

Path: /journal → Start your own journal · /journal/studio

You do:

  1. Sign in. You need a workspace. If the Studio says the workspace needs its update, take that update from your profile and come back.
  2. Press Start your own journal.
  3. Set the name and address, pick a look, write a story, and go live.

Result: The journal is yours. While it is a draft, other people cannot read it. Once it is live, it can appear under From the community.

JN-04. Read a community journal

Path: /journal → From the community

You do:

  1. Scroll to From the community.
  2. A card marked Featured · paid is a paid placement at the top. The rest are live journals that have at least one story.
  3. Open a card. The address is /journal/@handle and then that journal’s home.

Result: You are reading that person’s journal, in their look. It is not a Kontext magazine story, and it is not a Note.

JN-05. Email a story to subscribers

Path: Journal Studio → Stories

You do:

  1. Open a published story.
  2. Read the confirmed-reader count and the wallet cost.
  3. Send. Sending the same story again takes a deliberate second tick.

Result: Confirmed readers get the story by email, with their own unsubscribe link. A reader who has not confirmed is not on that send.

How it works

Kontext Journal stays on the platform: /journal, /journal/:slug, /journal/manage. Your journals live on your workspace. The Studio writes them; the public pages are /journal/@handle and below. The directory card is separate from the Marketplace shop. A newsletter send uses the same email path as a business broadcast and bills the wallet.

Benefits

Who it's for

Readers: everyone. Kontext authors: team and admin; founding, partner, and ambassador members submit. Your journals: anyone with a workspace, from Starter up. Not: Notes (a private pad). Not Kontext Docs. Not Kontext Social.
