Capabilities

Forum (/forum) is public threads — Latest, Categories, New, Unread, Hot, Top, and New Topic. Guests read; posting needs sign-in. It is not Helpdesk, not Messenger, and not Talk.

What is Forum?

Forum (/forum) is public questions and answers — threads, replies, votes, accepted answers. Welcome: Join the conversation. Tabs: Latest, Categories, New, Unread, Hot, Top. New Topic starts a thread. Guests can read. Post, reply, vote, and Advanced search need sign-in. There is no Unanswered sort label. Header search is not the thread finder — use in-forum tabs and Advanced.

What it is not

It is not Helpdesk (a private ticket with the platform team). It is not Talk (Kontext). It is not Documentation (the product book). It is not Kontext Docs (make a document). It is not Messenger. Posting a thread is not messaging a person. Community Discuss on Forum still opens this platform Forum unless they meant the club’s own feed.

Forum (/forum) — public category-based Q&A: threads, replies, votes, accepted answers. Complements Communities Discuss links and Helpdesk escalation.

Path: /forum → category → New thread

You do:

  1. Sign in to Kontext.
  2. Choose the best category for your topic.
  3. Click New thread (or equivalent compose CTA).
  4. Enter a clear title and body; add tags that match intent (e.g. Question + Bug Report).

  6. Publish the thread.

Result: Your thread appears in the category list; other members can reply and vote.

FR-04. Reply to a thread

Path: /forum → thread detail → reply composer

You do:

  1. Open an existing thread from browse or search.
  2. Read prior replies and any accepted answer marker.
  3. Scroll to the reply composer.
  4. Write your response; use Quote reply on a specific post if you are addressing one point.
  5. Submit the reply.
  6. Confirm the reply appears in chronological order with your handle.

Result: The conversation grows on-platform; thread author and subscribers see new activity.

FR-05. Vote on threads and replies

Path: Thread detail → upvote/downvote controls

You do:

  1. Sign in and open a thread with voting enabled.
  2. Upvote a helpful thread title or opening post.
  3. Downvote only when content is off-topic or misleading (per community norms).
  4. Upvote or downvote individual replies separately from the thread score.
  5. Refresh and confirm your vote state persists.
  6. Change a vote (toggle off or flip direction) if the UI allows.

Result: Popular and quality content rises in sort orders; vote history reflects your participation.

FR-06. Mark an accepted answer (Q&A)

Path: Thread tagged Question → reply → Accept answer

You do:

  1. Open a Question thread you authored (or where you have accept rights).
  2. Read replies from the community.
  3. On the best reply, click Accept answer (or equivalent).
  4. Confirm the reply shows an accepted badge.
  5. Sort or filter by Unanswered on the category page — confirm this thread no longer appears.
  6. Optionally edit the thread title for clarity after resolution.

Result: Future readers see the accepted reply first; Q&A categories stay searchable and resolved.

FR-07. Moderate threads (admin)

Path: /forum → thread → admin controls

You do:

  1. Sign in with forum admin or staff role.
  2. Open a thread that needs moderation.
  3. Pin the thread to keep it at the top of its category.
  4. Lock the thread to stop new replies when a topic is resolved or abusive.
  5. Feature the thread for platform-wide prominence when appropriate.
  6. Delete spam threads (own content or admin override per policy).

Result: Public discussion stays on-topic; announcements and policy threads remain visible and controlled.

FR-08. Jump from Community Discuss CTA

Path: /community/:communityId → Discuss on Forum → /forum

You do:

  1. Join a community with Forum links configured by the creator.
  2. On the community detail page, locate Discuss on Forum.
  3. Click the CTA.
  4. Confirm you land on the linked category or pinned thread ID from community settings.
  5. Read existing posts, then add a reply or start a related thread in the same category.
  6. Return to the community page — feed and Forum remain separate surfaces.

Result: Community members discuss in the public Forum without duplicating thread UI inside Communities.

How it works

Route /forum. Category/thread/reply forum on platform forum storage; votes, pins, locks.

Benefits

Who it's for

Primary: members seeking peer help. Also: admins moderating.
